Sea-inspired quilt up for grabs at church fair
Stockton Springs — Those who attend the Sandy Point Congregational Church Fair Wednesday, July 11, will have the chance to win a handmade quilt that carries the images one would see during a day at the beach.
The church ladies aid group has organized the annual summer fair since 1939, according to previously published reports, and the event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the church.
Glenna Salley, a member of the ladies aid, and her niece, Jane Bourassa, of Liberty, teamed up over the winter to create the prize for this year's raffle — a handmade quilt that includes images of a summer sky, the sea and the beach, complete with seashells.
Salley said the quilt is the third one she's helped create for the church fair, and this year's landscape-style quilt was time-consuming yet rewarding work.
"It took us all winter," said Salley.
Salley said the winner of the quilt raffle would be chosen at the fair, which will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
