SEARSMONT BICENTENNIAL DAY PARTNERS WITH MASONS TO PROVIDE FREE MAINE CHIP PACKETS AUGUST 9
The Maine Freemasons Quantabacook Lodge will sponsor a free and confidential Children’s Identification Program event at the Searsmont Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday August 9, Searsmont’s Bicentennial Day.
According to MECHIP.org, the Maine CHIP program is a child identification and protection safety tool designed to “give families a measure of protection against the ever increasing problem of missing children.”
The program, designed to meet the needs of families with children under the age of 12, requires less than a half hour to complete. It provides information that families can use in the unlikely circumstance that a child goes missing. All CHIP materials are given to the parents for use if that should happen.
The CHIP program is part of Searsmont’s Bicentennial Day, the last in a week’s worth of events, which on August 9 at the Searsmont Community Center includes a Masons hot dog stand, children’s activities and a bounce house. All activities and parking are free except for food and souvenirs. The Bicentennial Day concludes with a pig roast and lobster feed starting at 5 p.m. (fee charged for either meal, advance reservations highly recommended at email@example.com), free music and a barn dance, and free fireworks at 9 p.m.
