What a beautiful week we have had. A little hot at times but at least the end of summer is showing its beauty before the Fall season approaches soon. We had planted Morning Glory's awhile back and have had leaves for weeks. We finally got one beautiful blossom yesterday morning. Its been that kind of year for everyone, especially home gardeners and local farmers. Hopefully in the next few weeks there will still be time to get produce yet.

TAX BILLS: Many people are calling the town office to find out why they have not received their tax bill yet. The bills cannot be processed until the school budget is passed. After the budget is passed, a SPECIAL TOWN MEETING will be necessary to change the due date and the date when interest on late payments starts. Due to the delay in tax bills, and, as a result, the delay in tax payments, the Town will be borrowing funds through a Tax Anticipation Note, as authorized by the voters at Town Meeting. You can prepay your taxes up to the amount of last year’s taxes. This will help the cash flow and decreases the amount of money the town will have to borrow. Prepayments will be shown on the tax bills when they are printed.
IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER: Tues. Sept 3, 2013: 1) Public meeting at 6:00 pm on Tues., Sept 3 to vote on a Tax Anticipation Note in the amount of $1,000,000. 2) A Special Town Meeting to amend the tax due date and the interest effective date for 2013 property taxes. 3) Public Hearing immediately following special town meeting to discuss the petition for withdrawal from RSU 20.
TRANSFER STATION: There have been several inquiries on how to dispose of treated lumber, which is considered hazardous material. You can take it to the Rockland Solid Waste Facility; 400 Limerock St, Rockland. There will probably be a fee for the service. Don’t forget, if you have any unwanted clothing and shoes, you can take them to the Transfer Station and put them in the Planet Aid box. The town does receive a minimal fee for allowing the box to be on town property.
ROADS: If you travel on Moody Mt Rd, be aware that work has started so allow extra time for travel or take an alternate route. The work being done will be from the top of the hill by the old Clark Farm to the bottom of the hill. Culverts will be replaced, rocks will be taken out of the road and that section of the road will be paved.
