This has been a crazy week with unusual weather. The wind was quite something, and yet once again we didn't have it as bad as a lot of states. I am just so appreciative of Maine and how we are spared often from these storms and the damage other places have had to endure. February is a short month, all the closer to spring!!

All unpaid taxes on record as of Feb. 1 will be listed in the Town Report.
As of Feb. 1, all unregistered dogs will be assessed a $25 per dog late fee.
Thursday, Feb. 7,: the department head meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the conference area of the Town Office.
Tuesday, Feb 19, the Planning Board will present the proposed Comprehensive Plan Update and proposed changes to the Ordinance at 7 p.m. in the meeting room on the lower level of the community building.
Thursday, Feb. 21, the town’s annual budget meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the meeting room on the lower level of the community building.
Attention to the citizens of Searsmont and surrounding towns: There have been a number of break-ins and thefts recently in local homes. The Selectmen ask that everyone be aware of suspicious or unusual vehicles, persons, or activities in the area and report them to 911, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department at 338-2040, or the Town Office at 342-5411. In addition, please take precautions to secure your own home by locking doors and windows, and join with neighbors to monitor the activity in your neighborhood and in and around any nearby unoccupied homes, such as doors ajar, window screens removed, etc., that might indicate an attempted entry.
The U.S. Postal Service is soliciting proposals from private persons or firms to deliver mail in the Searsmont area. If you are interested, or know someone who is looking for work, see the postmaster or call the Northern Transportation CMT office at 860-285-7123 for instructions on how to apply online via the Web Based eSourcing program. For more information contact the Searsmont Post Office. Some information is also available at the Searsmont Town Office during normal business hours. The contract begins April 1.
Cribbage night
Friday Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. we will have game night downstairs at the Searsmont Community Building on Route131/Main st. Bring your boards, cards and a partner for a fun night out.

Monday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. we will meet downstairs in the Searsmont Community Bldg.
Historical Society
Wednesday, Feb. 13, we will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the meeting room next to the library in the Searsmont Community Building.
News from locals
The Mehuren girls, Elida and Emma, were the guests of the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs at the Holiday Inn in Portland on Jan. 26. They were accompanied by their dad, Glen and mom, Angel, along with their great-grandmother, Irene Mehuren, who was secretary of the Maine Draft Horse and Ox Association for many years. The girls also are both Maine Princesses of the Agricultural Association.
