Searsport athletes enjoy top-10 efforts at championships

Brooks throws javelin to third-place finish in Penobscot Valley Conference meet

Dover-Foxcroft — The Penobscot Valley Conference small school track-and-field championships were held Monday, June 2 at Foxcroft Academy after the event had been postponed several days due to wet conditions.

One of the teams that competed was Searsport District High School, as a handful of Viking female athletes excelled in the meet.

A third-place finish by Alicen Brooks in the javelin highlighted SDHS' participation.

The girls teams scores were: Orono 184, Foxcroft Academy 66, John Bapst of Bangor 61.5, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln 45, Fort Kent 30, Bucksport 27, Penquis Valley of Milo 27, Bangor Christian 26, George Stevens Academy of Blue 24.5, Piscataquis of Guilford 20, Sumner of East Sullivan 19, Dexter 17, Washington Academy of East Machias 14, Central of East Corinth 13 and Searsport 7.

The boys team scores were: Orono 145, Foxcroft Academy 139, George Stevens Academy 74, Sumner 37, Fort Kent 34, Central 33, Dexter 31, Bangor Christian 30, Bucksport 16, Washington Academy 9, Mattanawcook Academy 8, John Bapst 7, Calais 6, Penquis Valley 4 and Searsport and Piscataquis no score.

The individual Searsport girls results were:

100-meter hurdles (prelims) — 8, Paige Ireland, 20.75.

100-meter hurdles (final) — 8, Ireland, 19.79.

300-meter hurdles — 7, Ida Eriksson, 55.97; and 9, Ireland, 57.86.

Long jump — 8, Eriksson, 13-6.25.

Javelin — 3, Alicen Brooks, 100-8; and 6, Eriksson, 84-1.
