Searsport looks to improve, 'win a few games along way'

Searsport — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Searsport District High School softball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Cynthia Dehm, first year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 0-16, 17th in Eastern Class C. The Vikings did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Libby Lane (first base, outfield), Jaci Harriman (outfield), Allison Walker (first base, pitcher) and Alicen Brooks (outfield, catcher); juniors Brittany Ward (pitcher, outfield), Alivia Cross (catcher) and Brianna Boyle (outfield, third base); sophomores Anna Bucklin (second base, first base) and Melinda Ogden (catcher, outfield); and freshmen Ivy Blake (outfield), Karigen Coffin (shortstop, pitcher), Meghan Grant (outfield, shortstop) and Madison Philbrick (outfield, catcher).

Known graduation losses: None.

Significant impact players: None.

Team strength: Pitching and fielding.

Team goals: To play as a team, represent their school in the best possible way and to win a few games along the way.

Top league opponents: Unknown.

Outlook: The Vikings, after winning only one game in the past three years, are looking to get back on track as “all players are working on their fundamentals and practicing in multiple positions to become more well-rounded,” said Dehm.

The first-year coach said Ward is the team's starting pitcher and “has been working extremely hard in preseason and in the off-season.”
