Mount View High School Singers will be having their annual Holiday Concert at The First Congregational Church of Searsport Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted. This is an amazing acappella concert in the round.

Tuesday, December 3, starting at 7 p.m., the regular meeting of the Selectmen will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

Thursday, December 5, starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a Selectmen's workshop on the 2014 town budget in the town hall. There will be a second workshop on the 12th which should finish the town budget. The budget will then go to the Budget Advisory Committee where its members will then review it.

Thursday, December 5, is Customer Appreciation Day at the Grasshopper Shop from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Customers will receive 20% off merchandise. 5% of the proceeds will be given to the local non-profit March Madness. WORKS will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Thursday, December 5, Searsport Flags will be open from noon to 5 p.m. All U.S.Flags, State of Maine, Military Services and Open Flags will be reduced by 20%. Military Service flags make great holiday gifts for veterans.

Friday, December 6, at 4 p.m., the lighting of the Searsport Town Tree will take place on the crescent. Gingerbread Christmas by The Sea, a display of holiday gingerbread houses will take place at the Penobscot Marine Museum.

Friday, December 6, starting at 6 p.m., the Waldo County Budget Committee will meet in the District Court to take a final vote on the 2014 County Budget. The Public Hearing will start at 6 p.m. followed by the final votes at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Saturday, December 7, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., Belfast United Methodist Church will hold its Candy Cane Capers event for children ages 5 - 12 to shop for their immediate family. All are welcome!

Saturday, December 7, Santa will be in town. He will be riding around town on a fire truck between 10 and 11 a.m. and kids can have their picture taken with him between 11 and 2. There will be cookies available for the kids. Please bring an unwrapped gift that will be given to "Wings of Love" who will donate them to children in Waldo County.

Saturday, December 7 starting at 5 p.m., singer/songwriter, Concepta will be ministering in song at a benefit concert at the Searsport Full Gospel Church. Also featured will be supporting artist Dillon Anderson. A suggested donation for adults is $7. and children under 10 are free. All proceeds are going to church missions, projects and other needs. She will be giving away a copy of her latest single. "I Am! I Can!" to the first 10 people/families through the door.

Saturday, December 7, starting at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 8 starting at 3 p.m., the Penobscot Bay Singers will be performing "Handel's Messiah" at Union Hall. The full Chorus is made up of singers from the local communities, as well as four soloist's and a small orchestra. Suggested donation $15.00.

Saturday, December 7, WORKS will have a holiday open house with refreshments and a special show of handmade crafts for the holiday season.

I received a call from Jack Merrithew telling me that the organizational date of the Penobscot Engine Company took place 160 years ago, December 7. That was also the date they took possession of Penobscot Engine #1

I did not receive the information from the Lions Club yet but, I see they have their sign up for their annual Christmas tree sale in the Bangor Savings Bank parking lot this weekend. I do not know the times but I'm sure I will hear from one of them when they read this and I will pass it along to you.

Monday, December 9, the regular meeting of the Planning Board will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

I'm quite sure that the Searsport Fire Department still have the 2014 calendars available. Anyone wanting one can contact the fire department at 548-2302 or stop in at the Searsport Water District on Prospect Street.

Reminder to reregister your dog by December 31.
