Searsport — Law enforcement officials with the Searsport Police Department reported the following recent activity:

Aug. 7

Police responded to the report of a missing 10-year-old boy at 2:24 p.m. The youth's mother contacted police after the boy walked into the nearby woods behind the Mariner Woods apartment complex with his kitten. Officers Eric Marcel and Brian Lunt and Police Chief Dick LaHaye set out to search for the youth, and Searsport ambulance attendants also responded to the scene. LaHaye said he also contacted Maine Game Warden Christopher Dyer to alert the warden service about the missing child. Police located the boy in the woods less than an hour later, and though LaHaye said he was disoriented and scared, he was not injured.

Aug. 8

Peter Smith, 54, of Searsport, operating after suspension.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.
