Searsport prevails over Bucksport in pre-holiday contests

Former Golden Buck Sieber nets 16 against former squad

Searsport — The Searsport basketball teams are looking to rebound from disappointing seasons last year, and both appear to have started the new campaigns on the right track.

Both Viking teams picked up their second wins of the young season prior to the holiday, with the Viking boys (2-1) earning a 55-47 win over the Golden Bucks Dec. 22 at Searsport, while the Viking girls (2-2) prevailed 58-33 over the Golden Bucks Dec. 21 in Bucksport.

At Searsport Dec. 22, the Vikings earned their second straight win with an eight-point triumph over the Golden Bucks. Searsport took an 11-5 lead after the first quarter, while Bucksport rallied to take a 22-21 advantage at halftime and a 39-38 lead after three quarters.

The Vikings then went on a 17-8 run over the final eight minutes to pick up the win.

Dylan Sieber, who transferred to Searsport from Bucksport in the fall, netted 16 points against his former school, including three treys; while Buddy Ellis added 13 points; Austin Bean, 12; Dillan Moody, seven; Jake Powell, five; and Jay Burkard, two. Powell also hit a 3-pointer for the hosts.

For Bucksport, Jimmy Osgood tossed in 13 points, while Mitchell Burgess added 12; Chris Chaffee, 11; Sam Stearns, seven; and Ryan Grindle and Brady MacLeod, both two.

The Vikings were 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the foul line, while the Golden Bucks were 7-of-17 (41 percent).
