Searsport ready to make noise in Class D
Searsport — The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Searsport District High School girls soccer team:
Coach/years coached current team: R.J. Robertson, first year.
Last year's record/playoff information: 3-11, 13th in Eastern Class C. The Vikings did not qualify for the playoffs.
Roster: Seniors Kelli Gibbs (back), Alicen Brooks (goalie), Allison Walker (back), Jaci Harriman (midfield), Libby Lane (forward) and Briana Grant (forward); juniors Alivia Cross (midfield/forward), Brittany Ward (back) and Brianna Boyle (midfield); sophomores Lilah Chaar (back), Anna Bucklin (forward), Melinda Ogden (midfield), Meagan McKeon (midfield/forward); and freshmen Meghan Grant (forward), Ivy Blake (midfield/forward) and Karigen Coffin (forward).
Known graduation losses: Gwen Higgins and Avery Sanborn.
Significant impact players: Briana Grant, Brooks and Coffin.
Team strengths: Defensive unit and the team's ability to work together.
Team goal: To qualify for the Western Class D playoffs.
Top league opponents: Greenville and Richmond.
Outlook: The Vikings are new to Western Class D this fall and will look to qualify for the postseason in their first season in their new region, which should be an easier task than their years in jam-packed Eastern Class C. Searsport should slip right in and be in the thick of things in the playoffs. Briana Grant, Gibbs, Walker and Brooks are captains on this year's team.
