Searsport runners take off in Riot Challenge

Orono — Five Searsport cross-country runners participated in the fifth annual Riot Challenge, hosted by Orono High School, on Friday, Oct. 7.

The event is unique because it is a 4-kilometer (2.5 miles) course instead of the typical 5K (3.1 miles) ones run at many high school meets.

The girls team scores were: Orono 20, Narraguagus of Harrington 59, Washington Academy of East Machias 69, Lee Academy 103, Machias 113, Jonesport-Beals, Dexter and Searsport no score.

The boys team scores were: Orono 15, Lee Academy 78, Narraguagus 79, Machias 90, Central 105, Searsport, Jonesport-Beals, Dexter, Washington Academy no score.

The individual Viking girls results, with 55 finishers overall, were: 29, Jenna Keach, 22:35.81; and 38, Madison Philbrick, 23:55.58.

The individual Viking boys results, with 54 finishers overall, were: 19, Holden Clapp, 16:31.93; 26, Devin Fairbrother, 16:56.75; and 53, William Bradley, 26:14.76.
