Searsport Town News
By Dick Desmarais
The Town Offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holiday.
On Thursday, Dec. 27, starting at 10 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m., MPBN will be showing a program called "The Sea Captains' Port." Over two centuries, Searsport has been home to shipbuilding, sea commerce and deep-sea captains. Searsport is rich in history. This show features local people and was filmed and put together by Wayne Hamilton and Hamilton Marine. If you are looking for a last minute gift for someone, a DVD of the program is available at Hamilton Marine.
Charlene Knox Farris is moving forward with her efforts to replace and update the new World War II monument in Union Hall. If anyone knows of any person from Searsport who served during that time, please give their name to Charlene so they can be added to the list. Donations can be made to offset the cost by making a check to "Town of Searsport" and mailing to P.O.Box 499 or dropping it off at the Town Hall. While at the Town Hall, you can check the list of 173 names that were on the old memorial. If you know people, check for the correct spelling of their names. Do you know anyone on the list that is still alive? Please let Charlene know so they can be invited to the dedication in July.
Because Time Warner is having trouble from the storm and the fact that I have lost this connection once, I'm ending it here before I lose it again.
I hope you all have a merry Christmas.
