Monday, Dec. 31, the Town Office will close at 12:30 p.m. so the staff can close out what has to be closed out at year end.
Tuesday, Jan. 1, the Town Office will be closed for the New Year holiday, but the transfer station will be open.
Thursday, Jan. 3, the Budget Advisory Committee will meet in the Town Hall to work on the 2013 town budget. They will also be meeting on the 24th and 31st. Feb. 7 will be a backup date should they need it. These meetings will be televised.
Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Scouts will be holding a bottle drive. You can drop off bottles at their truck which will be sitting in Tozier's parking lot. You can also schedule a pickup of your bottles by calling Tony (323-1746), Royce (322-6599) or by leaving a message at 548-2471.
Monday, Jan. 14, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Planning Board will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
Tuesday, Jan. 15, starting at 7 p.m., the regular meeting of the Selectmen will be held in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
Did you receive a new cell phone as a gift? Triad is looking for used cell phones to be recycled into 911 phones for older people and domestic abuse victims to use in the event of an emergency. If you would like to donate your old one (don't forget the charger), you can do so by putting it in the marked box located in the lobby of the Searsport Police Department.
Triad is dedicated to improving the safety of people 50 and over in their homes and communities through education and service. To receive their free newsletter, just print your name, address and phone number on the form next to the used cell phone box in the lobby.
Work on the new World War II Memorial is moving along. A Searsport resident who served in the war and did not have his name on the original memorial has been identified. If you know of others, notify Charlene Knox Farris (549-2954). Anyone wanting to make a donation can do so by making a check out to the town of Searsport and dropping it off at the Town Hall.
Dog licenses were due on Dec. 31. Right now any unlicensed dog is in the "grace" period. Starting Feb. 1, an additional charge will be added.
During the month of November, the ambulance responded to 33 calls for service, the police to 212 calls for service and the fire department to eight, along with 28 burn permits issued.
Work is finished on the Waldo County Budget for 2013. There will be an increase of 3.03 percent over 2012.
