Monday, Feb. 18, the Town Hall will be closed for Presidents' Day.
Tuesday, Feb. 19, starting at 7 p.m., the regular meeting of the selectmen will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
Sunday, Feb. 24, starting at 2 p.m., the annual Meet the Candidates will take place in the Town Hall. This year we have two candidates running for the one open seat on the Board of Selectmen (Meredith Ares & Travis Otis), and one candidate for the School Board (Percy King). James Gillway, town manager, will give a brief "State of the Town" report.
Monday, Feb. 25, starting at 6 p.m., there will be another evening of the public hearing on the DCP application to be held in the Searsport High School. Snow date will be Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Wednesday, Feb. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Shellfish Management Committee will meet in the Dan Rich Public Safety Building.
During the month of January, the Searsport Police Department responded to 181 calls for service and the Fire Department to 17.
A reminder that tax appointments with free e-filing are available Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., through Apr. 10 at the Carver Memorial Library in Searsport. For a tax appointment, call Pat Snyder at 567-3137 evenings. This free service, sponsored by the AARP Foundation in conjunction with the Eastern Maine Ca$h Coalition and the IRS, is available for low- to moderate-income tax payers of any age, with special attention for those 60 and over. The volunteer tax preparers are IRS-certified.
