Searsport ushers in season with scarecrows, cars and candy
Searsport — Locals flocked to Searsport over the weekend of Oct. 12 to take in a parade, check out an antique car show and to hop on the hay wagon for the annual Fling into Fall celebration.
The festivities kicked off Friday, Oct. 11, with the assembly of the entries for the scarecrow contest on the lawn of the Penobscot Marine Museum and the lighting of luminaries in the downtown. The event featured face painting and games for the kids, as well as a bonfire and live music.
Saturday, Oct. 12, a collection of antique cars and restored Tonka trucks took over Mosman Park, and the parade drew a crowd to Main Street. All through the day, visitors enjoyed a craft show, historic cemetery tours, a chili cook-off and hayrides.
