Searsport's Warren qualifies for state schoolgirl championshipsVikings shoot 482, miss cut for state championships
Lincoln — The Searsport golf team had qualifying for the state Class C golf team championships on its mind on Thursday, Sept 26 as the Vikings participated in the Penobscot Valley Conference championship and state qualifier, held on the JATO Highlands Golf Course.
The Vikings were one of several teams looking to qualify, but ultimately came up short, finishing with a combined 18-hole, four-golfer stroke total of 482, outside the cut line.
However, Viking Rica Warren, who shot 104, qualified for the individual schoolgirl championship, which will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.
All female players shooting 110 and under qualified for the schoolgirl championships, while male players shooting 90 or better qualified for the schoolboy championships, respectively.
Houlton finished at 354 and claimed the PVC Class C title and will advance to the state Class C championship, along with George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill (372) and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (373), which also qualified. JATO Highlands Golf Course is the home course of the Lynx.
Presque Isle also shot 354 and claimed the PVC Class B crown and will advance to the state Class B championship, along with Hermon (359) and John Bapst of Bangor (376).
Warren's 104 led Searsport, while Alex Woodward shot 114, Tyler Kendall 129 and John Guerette 135.
The state Class C team championship will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 on the Arrowhead Course at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.
