Season opening, Beyond the Sea

Apr 30, 2014
Artist Chris Gamage will visit Beyond The Sea this weekend. The gallery carries his bronze sculptures including "Pincher" and "Crusher."

Lincolnville — Beyond The Sea, Route 1 at Lincolnville Beach, is open for the season and will be celebrating a Grand Re-opening Weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Chris Gamage, one of a few new artisans that added to Beyond the Sea this year, will pop in and out during the weekend as his schedule permits. Gamage creates bronze sculptures, both from real-life castings and his own creativity. A lobster buoy replica also serves as a little bell, and lobster claws serve as models for castings. Doreen "Maid in the Woods" Dickson also will be among the weekend’s special guests. Her pressed metals, gemstone jewelry and copper Tree of Life designs are customer favorites. And award-winning local painter Dianne Horton, whose original watercolors, prints and tiles are a regular feature at Beyond the Sea, will be on hand, as well.

Caroline Samson will be on hand for a signing of “Every Horse Has a Story,” a lovely hardcover book featuring photographs and stories of Maine horses. An avid horse owner and photographer, Samson lives in Litchfield with her husband and her three equine friends, Doc, Blue, & Mr. Noodles. To preview her photography, visit CarolineSamsonPhotography.com. Her books will be available at Beyond the Sea throughout the year.

Artisan Sandi Cirillo will be in shop Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cirillo’s drawings, fiber art, etchings and marbleized scarves are a regular draw, and she offers drawing classes through the gallery. Acclaimed Maine author Cathie Pelletier will be on hand to sign her new release for young to adult readers, “The Summer Experiment,” Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. On both days, there will be door prizes, treats, complementary fare and fun. Visitors will be able to meet some of the artists, authors and artisans.
