Sketchbook journaling continues

Penobscot Bay served as a winter subject for the Belfast Free Sketchers.

Belfast — Belfast Free Library’s sketchbook journaling group, The Belfast Free Sketchers, will meet on the fourth Tuesdays of April and May — April 25 and May 23 — from 2 to 4 p.m. in the downtown library’s Abbott Room.

The group is free and open to the public and welcomes new members. Participants bring their own materials. Sketchers have been enjoying sharing drawings, writing and other related work that they’ve created between meetings, as well as work created during the meetings. Telling stories, sharing creative process and lots of laughing occurs in an encouraging and enthusiastic atmosphere.

All levels of experience are welcome. During each session, sketchbook journaling artist and facilitator Rita Swidrowski brings in books, resources and ideas on a mini theme, but sketchers freely follow their individual directions. Topics covered have included travel and nature journaling, materials and aspects of writing and drawing. As the weather turns milder, the group may resume some outdoor sketching and observing time during the studio portion of the sessions.
