Lincolnville — The second annual Tanglewood 5-kilometer family snowshoe race will be Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.

The course follows woodsy trails that cross the Ducktrap River on a suspension bridge and wind up at the main lodge of Tanglewood 4H Camp and Learning Center, where there will be a fire in the stone fireplace, hot drinks and hot food.

One can register for the race online at extension.umaine.edu/tanglewood or at the race before the start. There is a free children's race for those ages 12 and younger, and Tanglewood will supply small snowshoes for the event.

There will be prizes in several categories. Spectators are welcome.

The races will take place regardless of weather conditions. If there is no snow, it will be a trail run.

Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Tanglewood/Blueberry Cove 4-H camps, a branch of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. The goal is to make a camp experience affordable for Maine children and adults.

For more information on the snowshoe event, call John Pincince at 230-2410.
