Solar open house at Belfast Cohousing & Ecovillage

Aug 18, 2012

Active and passive solar are helping Belfast homeowners cut energy bills and still live comfortably. Joline Blais and Jon Ippolito will be opening their home Thursday, Aug. 23 from 7 to 8 p.m. to showcase how active and passive solar are meeting their energy needs. A solar hot water system heats their domestic hot water and a grid-tied solar electric installation provides renewable electricity. The home is also designed using the Passive House concept, a highly insulated building heated primarily by passive solar gain.

The open house is a chance for those interested or curious about active solar technologies and passive solar design to see it themselves. There will be a solar specialist and a passive house architect present to describe how the design and energy systems work. A tour of the home will be given by the homeowner with question and answers to follow. Light snacks will be provided. The event is free and all are welcome.
