‘Spokes and Jokes’ in Brooks

Brooks — Christian standup comedy purveyor Christopher Quimby offers "Spokes and Jokes: Camp Fair Haven 2," a show to help raise funds for his upcoming comedy-tour-by-bicycle, Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. at Camp Fair Haven, 81 West Fair Haven Lane. Admission is free with donations accepted.

Quimby’s Spokes and Jokes tour will be a journey of biking mixed with comedy as he makes his way from Waldo County to the Longhorn State of Texas. Quimby’s comic performances go back to eighth grade at Belfast’s former Crosby School; his first known song parody, based on Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” was “Man in the Pulp Truck.” But he gave up the dream of being a standup comedian until, after rededicating his life to God upon marriage to his wife, Heather, in 1996, he took to the stage in Winterport in a talent show and began to realize his dream of offering laughter to the crowds.

Amidst the competing responsibilities of family and full-time work, Quimby’s comedic talent remained a hobby, expressed occasionally at corporate events, private parties and churches. But an amusing and exciting series of events in 2006 led to his speaking with Rory Rosegarten, executive producer of “Everybody Loves Raymond” and manager for Ray Romano and Brian Regan, and the opportunity to audition and then open for Regan at a University of Maine performance.

For the next few years, Quimby’s creative outlets were mainly writing humor columns for his website and local newspapers; and creating videos. In 2011, he severed his employment with the Bangor Daily News, his employer of 11 years, to take a more active part in crafting his future. Now he seeks opportunities in churches around the country to entertain those who do not just desire clean comedy, but an act crafted by someone who sees life from their perspective … if not slightly askew.
