'Stangs, Vikings hole victories in links playBelfast Lions cannot keep pace with Eagles of Newcastle
Waldo County high school golf squads were busy on the links Sept. 17, with Mount View of Thorndike, Searsport and Belfast in action.
The Mustangs and Vikings picked up victories over Waterville and Sumner of East Sullivan, respectively, while the Lions ran into a tough Lincoln Academy of Newcastle squad and were grounded by the Eagles.

Searsport 191, Sumner 222
At Blink Bonnie Golf Links in Sorrento Sept. 18, the Vikings continued to battle back toward .500, winning their third match of the campaign, this time over the host Tigers. Searsport earned the win with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 191 to 222.
Searsport's Alex Carroll shots 41 to earn medalist honors with a 41.
Searsport's individual scores were: Carroll, 41; Jacob Bucklin, 49; Dillan Moody, 50; Alex Woodward, 51; Rica Barloso, 52; Tyler Kendall, 57; and John Guerette, 58.
Sumner's individual scores were: Matt Lameuroux, 53; Shamus Russet, 53; Vincent Ossanna, 56; Yesenia Valencia, 60; and Aiyla Petty, 63.
Deer Isle-Stonington 158, Searsport 205
At Island Country Club in Deer Isle Sept. 17, the Mariners had little trouble with the visiting Vikings and prevailed by a considerable margin. Deer Isle-Stonington earned the win with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 158 to 205.
Mariner Sam Grindle shot 33 to earn medalist honors.
Searsport's individual scores were: Moody, 44; Carroll, 49; Bucklin, 56; Woodward, 56; Barloso, 57; Kendall, 57; and Guerette, 76.
Deer Isle-Stonington's individual scores were: Grindle, 33; Conner Morey, 34; Nick Eaton, 45; Drew Siebert, 46; Nathan Davis, 49; Alec Eaton, 53; Nick Dunham, 56; Nick Siebert, 60; Andy Turner, 62; and Tim Cormier, 68.
Mount View 7, Waterville 2
At Waterville Country Club in Waterville Sept. 17, the Mustangs received a strong effort from their golfers and earned a decisive win over the Purple Panthers. Mount View earned the win with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 190 of 216.
Mustangs Erik Larrabee and Austin Higgins both shot 42 to earn co-medalist honors.
The individual results, with Mustangs listed first, were: Larrabee (42) beat Will Bolduc (62); Higgins (42) beat Sam Wehry (63); Montana Maynard (53) beat C.J. Gaunce (57); Owen Freeman (53) beat Adam Barre (54); Cay Outerbridge (65) lost to Lauren Hallenbeck (56); and Westley Turner (67) lost to Keaton Lahneman (49).
Lincoln Academy 7, Belfast 2
At Northport Golf Club in Northport Sept. 17, the Eagles soared to victory over the host Lions. Lincoln Academy prevailed with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 187 to 209.
Lincoln Academy's Seward Matel shot 38 to earn medalist honors.
The individual results, with Lions listed first, were: Logan Mitchell (56) lost to Matel (38); Larry Dyer (50) lost to Goran Johanson (47); Alex Fritz (49) beat Casey Poland (51); Jack Fritz (54) beat Austin Armstrong (55); Doyle Bailey (58) lost to Matt Bolster (52); and Ethan Campbell (95) lost to Luke Bibber (51).
In junior varsity action, Josh Adams (67) lost to Sam Zaidi (57), while Allen Alley (85) lost to Kobe Lincoln (58).
