Belfast — Students from the Nickerson School in Swanville sharpened their skills on the ice during a field trip to the city skating rink in Belfast Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 4.

Students and staff from the second, third, fourth and fifth grade classes exhibited varying levels of skill on the ice, and throughout the hour-long outing, students spent their time gliding and spinning — with a few slips and spills in between.

Nickerson School Principal Abigail Hartford said the skating trip gets the students outside and active, and gives some the chance to try out a new outdoor sport.
