The art of birch bark at Raven’s Nest

Jul 20, 2014
Work by multimedia artist Ken Weeks will be featured this summer at Raven’s Nest Gallery in Belfast.

Belfast — Raven's Nest Gallery, 65 Main St., will host a show of the works of Ken Weeks of Blue Hill. IT will run Friday, July 25, through Aug. 15. The public is invited to a Final Friday Art Walk reception with refreshments the evening of July 25.

Having been an actor, comedian, designer and always an artist, Weeks currently builds birch bark canoes. The models mimic the same dynamics that a full-size canoe demands and are built historically accurate in detail, as well as process.

Due to gallery space constraints the largest canoe, 14 feet, will only be displayed on the night of July’s Final Friday Art Walk. On display for the duration of the show will be the artist's paintings and assemblages and scale models.  Also featured will be his unusual dioramas representing the wacky, wild and wonderful interpretations of this inventive artist.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 505-2659 or 323-6436.
