This Sunday we continue our series - THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MOSES; Sermon - Only Just Begun - by Pastor Adam Kohlstrom
Only Just Begun
Deuteronomy 2:7. When and how have you experienced the Lord’s provision in your own “wilderness” journeys?
Deuteronomy 2:1-9. What lesson was Israel to learn by the fact that the Lord specifically withheld certain lands from them and did not approve every battle they wanted to fight (1:41-46)? In light of passages like Matt. 6:11; Phil. 4:11-12; 1Tim. 6:6-8; Heb. 13:5-6, what lesson should this teach us today?
The very people of whom Israel was so afraid (1:28), who were far stronger (Num. 13:31), and who had defeated them 38 years prior (1:42-46) were easily defeated by Israel in Heshbon (2:24-37) and Bashan (3:1-11). How does this give you confidence as you face your giants today (cf. 2:25,33)?
Deuteronomy 2:25-3:11. The defeat of Sihon king of the Amorites and Og the king of Bashan (Num. 21:21-35) were part of the Lord’s plan to fulfill Deut. 2:25 - striking fear in the hearts of the Canaanites (cf. Josh. 2:10; 9:9-10; Jdg. 11:12-29). Their defeat became a touch point for the Israelites’ faith (see. Deut. 4:46; 29:7; 31:4; Neh. 9:22; Ps. 135:10-12; 136:17-22). What events from your history are touch points, or spiritual milestones, for you today?
Deuteronomy 3:24 is a statement of great faith, inspired by what the LORD had already done. How does the prayer of Ephesians 3:20-21 relate to this declaration? Recall together some of the great things that the LORD has done for us. Make these two passages the center of your prayer time together.
