Thompson Community Center to offer Summer Arts Camp for Children
Thompson Community Center, in Union, is planning to offer a week long Fine Arts and Crafts camp next summer.
Union, Maine, October 1, 2013 – The Thompson Community Center (TCC) in Union, is a non-profit community center in the heart of Union, supported in part by the community, helping people and families with programs and services such as a Thrift Store. The TCC is making plans to hold a free or low cost week long summer arts camp for area children 8 – 18 years old. Some of the creative classes that may be offered at this camp are drawing, painting, sculpture, basketry, photography, calligraphy, beadwork, weaving, woodworking, metalsmithing, found object art, music, dance, and poetry. This camp is for area students that are seeking a more in-depth study of art and for students interested in an introduction to new art forms.
The TCC is partnering with the Vose Library of Union on this project. The Vose Library will be a valuable resource for art camp students with its recently created fine craftsmanship collection. The Vose Library has agreed to display donated artwork in the library for all the community to see and coordinate an art auction with proceeds going to the TCC Summer Fine Arts and Crafts Camp for children.
Union is rich with talented artists and fine craftsmen. The TCC is calling all artists, craftsmen, and art teachers as we are interested in hearing from you. We want you to pass on your talents to area students. Can you possibly teach a class or open your studio for a tour during the summer camp?
The TCC will be holding several unique fundraisers throughout the year to benefit the art camp. The first fund raiser will be at the Union Art League 2nd Annual Art Show, Friday, October 11th, from 5-7 pm and Saturday, October 12th, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Brooder House Auction house in Union. The Union Arts League will be raffling a signed print by Jamie Wyeth titled Iris at Sea. Raffle tickets for this beautiful signed and framed print are $10 each. All proceeds from the raffle go to support the TCC Summer Fine Arts and Crafts Camp for children.
The next fund raiser will be at Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery during the month of October. Artists who are interested in displaying their work and working en plein air at the winery are encouraged to contact Sweetgrass for details and to reserve a date in October, email email@example.com. In addition to fundraisers, the TCC Summer Fine Arts and Crafts camp is seeking art donations for an auction that will benefit the summer camp.
