Three Lions, Mustang, Mariner selected All-State

Cummings, Lapham, Ward, Masessa, Plourde honored with lofty achievement

The 2012 Maine Field Hockey All-State selections for high school student-athletes have been announced and include three Belfast Lions and a Mount View Mustang and Oceanside Mariner.

The prestigious honors, announced by Kristina Lane Prescott, public relations for MFHS and Greely High School of Cumberland coach, include Belfast's Madison Cummings, Julia Ward and Katrina Lapham and Mount View's Brittany Masessa and Oceanside's Hannah Plourde.

Ward, Lapham, Plourde and Masessa are seniors and Cummings a junior.

The Lions, Mustangs and Mariners all qualified for the Eastern Class B tournament, with Belfast winning the regional crown and advancing to the state championship game. Mount View and Belfast squared off in a semifinal affair. Oceanside lost in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

Cummings, Ward and Lapham helped BAHS finish 14-2-2 overall, while Masessa aided Mount View's 11-4-1 season and Plourde helped Oceanside's 8-5-2 campaign. In all, the players were instrumental in the three squads' 33-11-5 overall mark.
