Tips to keep pets safe this HalloweenPope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County
Halloween is full of spooky fun for the family but it can be scary and dangerous for your pet. Here are some basic tips to keep your four-legged family members safe this Halloween.
Find a quiet place for your pet away from the door and the stream of trick-or-treaters dressed in strange costumes knocking on the door. Door darters could escape unnoticed during all the activity. Bring your pet in for the evening. He won’t get stressed by all the strange sights and sounds and head for the hills and he won’t find himself in the path of pranksters with mischief on their minds. Always a good practice, make sure your pet has a collar with a current I.D. tag. If you need a pet tag, we have a tag engraving machine at the shelter where you can personalize a pet tag for just $7. It only takes a matter of minutes and could be a ticket home in case they get lost. It’s also important to keep candy away from pets. Not only could it upset their stomachs but some, like chocolate, are toxic to pets. Many children are nervous around strange dogs, so it’s best to keep Fido at home so everyone has an enjoyable evening. Have a safe and Happy Halloween.
Kittens aren’t the only pint-sized pets we have available for adoption at PMHSKC. We also have a variety of “pocket pets” waiting for forever homes too; small critters like Eggnog, a beautiful long-haired guinea pig or how about a curious pet rat, we have a dozen of them. We also have several soft and silky rabbits looking for homes. Our staff will be happy to discuss the care of pocket pets with you to see if they are the ideal pet for your family. And now through the end of October, during our There's No Place Like Home adoption special, the adoption fee is waived for all small mammals. Adult cats are $20, kittens are only $20 and adult dogs are $75.
