The recently released film Heaven Is for Real, based on the best-selling book with the same title, has once again brought to light a story of someone telling of a visit to heaven during a near death experience. Such accounts have flourished in recent years, and they all attempt to explain an individual’s perception of heaven or an afterlife. But what is heaven? Is it a far-off place that can be known only after death, or is it possible to gain glimpses of heaven here and now?

Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2), implying that any one of us can discover heaven at any time. And Mary Baker Eddy defines heaven as “harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 587). As we deepen our understanding of God, Spirit, Soul, we find more of this heavenly harmony operating in our lives right now.

To further explore this present reality of heaven, join the chat and bring your questions for Christian Science practitioner and teacher Mark Swinney, from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
