A vintage recording of author J.R.R. Tolkien reading from his famous trilogy will be played in his honor at WORKS in Searsport.

Searsport — In celebration of the birth of famed author J.R.R. Tolkien, the downtown WORKS Bookstore will hold a birthday reading Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.

A vinyl recording Tolkien himself reading from “The Two Towers” will be played. Partygoers are encouraged to read their own favorite passages from Tolkien’s work aloud. Refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public. WORKS is located at 21 East Main St./Route 1. Spring hours are Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 899-5988.
