Towns set dates for annual Town Meetings

In March many of the towns in Waldo County will come together to hold their annual town meetings. Each town must pass its annual budget and consider funding levels for items like certain social services and town roads. The following is a list of towns holding town meeting in March and some of these issues they will be addressing, along with the date, time and location of those meetings:

Belmont

Monday, March 17, 7:30 p.m. at the Town Office. Elections will be held from the floor.

Brooks

Saturday, March 15, 1 p.m. at Morse Memorial School. Elections will be held from the floor.

Frankfort

Friday, March 28, 7 p.m. at the New Town Office (the former Frankfort Elementary School) on North Searsport Road. Elections will be held on March 27, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Town Office.

Freedom

Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m. at the Freedom Grange Hall. Elections will be held on March 21, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. in Election Hall (at the Town Office).

Jackson

Saturday, March 15, 9:30 a.m., at the Jackson Community Center.

Knox

Saturday, March 15, 10 a.m., at the Town Office. Elections will be held Friday, March 14, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Office.

Liberty

Saturday, March 29, 9 a.m. at the new Community Hall at 3 Serenity Lane (off Route 220, Pinnacle Road). Elections will be held from the floor. They will be voting on two budgets: a 6-month and a 12-month, because of the change of fiscal year.

Montville

Saturday, March 29, 10 a.m. at the Town House at 420 Center Road. Elections will be held from the floor.

Morrill

Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. at the Community Center. Elections will be held from the floor.

Prospect

Saturday, March 29, 9 a.m., at the Prospect Fire House on Bangor Road. Elections will be held Friday, March 28, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Town Office.

Palermo

Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m., at the Palermo Consolidated School on Route 3. Elections will be held Friday, March 7, 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. at the Palermo Town Office.

Searsport

Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m. in the Searsport High School cafetorium on Mortland Road. Elections will be held Tuesday, March 4, at the Public Safety building on Union St. Voters will consider changes to several town ordinances including the Adult Entertainment Establishment Ordinance, the Holding Tank Ordinance  and the Cemetery Ordinance. There will also be articles to determine if the town will retain ownership of the property on Mount Ephram Road that had previously been proposed for a new public safety building and whether to establish a reserve account to cover personnel matters at the Searsport Police Department.

Swanville

Saturday, March 8, 10 a.m. at the Nickerson School on Townhouse Road. Elections will be held Friday, March 7, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Swanville Town Office.

Thorndike

Saturday, March 15, 9:30 a.m. at the Town Office. Elections will be conducted from the floor at town meeting.

Troy

Saturday, March 22, 9 a.m., at Troy Central School. Elections will be held Friday, March 21 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Town Office.

Unity

Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m., at Unity School gymnasium. Elections are Friday, March 21, with voting from noon - 8 p.m. at the Town Office.

Waldo

Saturday, March 22, 9:0 a.m., at the Town Office/Community Hall. A breakfast meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. prior to the start of the regular town meeting. Elections will be held from the floor.
