Training for balance program coaches

Chances are you know someone who has fallen or who is afraid of falling. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls, is a proven program designed to help older adults manage concerns about falls and increase physical activity. Spectrum Generations is looking for volunteers to coach these classes in Waldo County. The eight-hour coach training is free, and materials are provided.
Matter of Balance coaches help participants become more confident about managing falls by helping them find ways to reduce falls, and to protect themselves if they do fall. Coaches must be able to lead low level exercises to help increase strength and balance and have good communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, dependability and a willingness to lead small groups of older adults.
The next training will be held at Spectrum Generations Waldo Community Center located at 18 Merriam Road, Belfast on Oct. 28 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information or to register for training, call Tina DeRaps at 620-1657 or e-mail Tina at firstname.lastname@example.org.
