Rockland — The Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County will heat up the winter with its fourth annual Tropical Getaway Saturday, March 2. The fun-filled fundraiser will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at Rockland Elks Lodge, 210 Rankin St., and will feature the island sounds of Midcoast Maine’s steel drum band Steelin’ Thunder.

There will be plenty of fabulous food, drink, raffles and island-themed entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to don their best tropical-themed outfits and join in on the fun of dancing, a limbo contest, hula hoopin’ and more, or just sit back and just enjoy the music.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at Pet Quarters, Loyal Biscuit and Hollydachs, as well as at the shelter on Buttermilk Lane, Thomaston; they also will be sold at the door. All proceeds will go towards helping the homeless animals in our community. Event sponsors include Horch Roofing, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries and Kennebec Pharmacy & Home Care.

The Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County serves towns in both Knox and Waldo counties. For more information, call 594-4897; visit hskcME.org; or send or send email to humane@midcoast.com.
