Two die in Stockton Springs crash

Stockton Springs — Two people were killed in Stockton Springs after a car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle early in the evening of Saturday, June 7.

Waldo County Sheriff's deputies Kevin Littlefield and Daniel Thompson, as well as Detective Gerald Lincoln responded to the two-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Prospect at 4:54 p.m. A preliminary investigation determined a green Dodge Intrepid driven by Denise Shuck, of Ohio, crossed the center line and struck a Dodge van driven by Sarah Thompson of Morrill, who also had three passengers in her vehicle.

Shuck was pronounced dead at the scene and Thompson and her passengers were taken by ambulance to local hospitals. Frederick Carter, 65, of Morrill, later died at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Bucksport Ambulance Service, Prospect Fire Department, Stockton Springs Fire Department and Stockton Springs Ambulance responded to the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
