Winterport — The Waldo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a head-on crash that occurred on Monroe Road in Winterport Thursday morning, Dec. 6, after which both drivers required hospitalization.

Deputy Darren Moody said 47-year-old Timothy White of Frankfort was headed south on Monroe Road in a red SUV when he met an oncoming passenger car that was being driven by 19-year-old Bethany Henneberry of Winterport.

"One of the vehicles crossed the center line and they struck head-on," said Moody.

Police are still working to determine the circumstances that led up to the crash, Moody said.

White was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center via Winterport Ambulance, and Moody said he sustained a broken leg and was complaining of back pain at the scene. Hampden ambulance attendants transported Henneberry to EMMC to be treated for broken bones in her back.

Moody said both vehicles were totaled as a result of the accident.

Noticing a helluva lot of cell phone use around here lately. Oncoming vehicles are becoming a potential threat.
