Belfast — Police responded to Back Searsport Road in Belfast Friday, Sept. 21, after two vehicles struck several large rocks that had fallen off a truck into the road.

The first call was made around 8:30 a.m. after a driver struck the rocks that were in the road, Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said. Police received a second call after another driver struck a rock, but was able to continue driving to work.

Cunningham said the truck, which was driven by Jonathan Skinner, 56, of Belfast had a defective tailgate latch, which caused the rocks to spill into the road. The first vehicle that struck the rocks suffered damage to its oil pan and had to be towed from the scene. The second vehicle had a bent rim but was able to be driven.

Skinner is paying for the damages to both of the vehicles, Cunningham said.
