Unity College Outlines Slate of Summer Courses

Unity, Maine – June 2, 2014 – One of the premier environmental colleges in the United States is presenting a wide range of courses for both college age and adult learners this summer.
     Unity College, widely known as America’s Environmental College, is offering academic courses for credit which also may be taken for non-credit learning purposes. Birding in Maine – Techniques in the Environmental Sciences, August 7-10

Visual Media Storytelling – Community and Environment, August 10-16

Society and Sustainability – Biking Maine, August 16-22

     In recent years, Unity College has gained international attention for a variety of achievements including: its academic programming focus on sustainability science, the College’s emphasis on experiential learning to complement strong classroom teaching, its involvement in leading-edge 21st century ecological problem solving and the worldwide recognition that the College has achieved in being the leader in the fight for global climate change mitigation. Ground breaking “green” innovations, such as the award-winning TerraHaus, brought international distinction to the College. Unity College’s TerraHaus is the first student residence on a college or university campus built to the Passive House standard, which is the most energy efficient building standard in the world. To further support their passion for environmentalism, Unity students wear graduation gowns made of 100% recyclable plastic bottles. Starting in 2007,Unity College made a dramatic statement by being the first in the United States to totally divest from fossil fuels investments, thereby igniting a growing national movement in higher education to ensure the sustainability of the planet.
     Through the framework of sustainability science, Unity College provides a liberal arts education that emphasizes the environment and natural resources. Through experiential and collaborative learning, our graduates emerge as responsible citizens, environmental stewards and visionary leaders.
