Unity College premieres, and stars in, documentary
Unity — On Sunday, April 21, 350.org will premiere “Do the Math,” a documentary about the organization's work and growing movement. The film will premiere via live stream in theaters, libraries and living rooms across the country. The Midcoast’s opportunity will be at 7 p.m. at Unity College Center for the Performing Art, 42 Depot St. Admission is free.
350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Its online campaigns, grassroots organizing and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in more than 188 countries.
As the first college in the country to commit to fossil fuel divestment, Unity College is at the leading edge of a national campaign that has spread to more than 300 campuses and across other sectors. Unity College announced divestment to the world last November from the stage in Portland on 350.org’s DO THE MATH tour. Unity’s divestment and President Stephen Mulkey are now highlighted in the 350.org documentary by the same name.
After the film is screened, there will be a live-streamed panel with climate leaders at 8 p.m.; and a post-panel discussion about 350.org at about 8:40 p.m. Meeting in person is the driving force behind the 350 movement, so everyone is invited to join Unity College and local members of 350 Maine to watch the film alongside friends, neighbors and colleagues.
