Unity — New England Celtic Arts, in partnership with the Kingfield POPS and the Western Maine Story Telling Festival, will present a Newfoundland Songwriter's Showcase with Ian Foster and Terry Penney Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. A pre-show jam session will start at 6:30 p.m.

The Newfoundland Songwriter’s Showcase features award-winning songwriters Terry Penney and Ian Foster, who will be working together to present a variety of fun, new and old-aged folk music. Each of these artists has an ability to combine music with lyrics to capture a story that is both captivating and entertaining. Penney and Foster have joined forces on this project in hopes to make an annual event featuring a combination of concerts and workshops that reach out to the many aspiring songsmiths in the mountains of western and central Maine.

Foster’s music combines many of the classic elements of folk songwriting and storytelling with newer approaches to the genre. His albums contain a mix of traditional and modern instruments and effects; he regularly plays both electric and acoustic live, making tasteful use of looping and delay effects. Penney’s songs are so vivid and image-driven they have been likened to three-minute movies. He is a world-class storyteller and performer, an old soul who has always had a penchant for the past.

Tickets will be $15 at the door. For reservations, call the UCCPA at 948-7469. Reservations are strongly suggested.
