IN MY WORLD

I've been in Maine about 20 years now, but it still catches me off guard sometimes. I had the most confusing conversation with Bill about an old show called "Welcome Back Kotter" and because of Bill's accent, I thought he was saying "Welcome Back Carter" - and we just went round and round saying Carter, Kotter, and Kah-tah. When Bill's mom was alive, we got her a cat. She said she named it "Hoss". With her accent, I thought she had named the cat "Horse". When I asked why she named the cat "Horse", I was a little embarrassed to find out she actually meant "Hoss" - like the character from Bonanza. Like mother, like son.
