Unity Town News

By Sonia Antunes | Dec 22, 2013

I thought it was really cool to hear Izzy McKay and Rick Thompson of Brooks have gifted Half Moon Gardens of Thorndike to Unity College. The property, along with five years of financial support, is valued at over $1.2 million. Unity College will use it for teaching, research, experiential learning and programs in sustainability science. A spring ribbon-cutting celebration is planned.

Unity College will be closed from December 24 - January 1

Town Reminders:

  • The Town Office will  be closed on Tuesday evening, December 31 and January 1.

  • Please be careful when plowing your driveway.  It is illegal to plow snow into the road and leave it.  “A person may not place and allow to remain on a public way snow or slush that has not accumulated there naturally”. 29A M.R.S.A. ss2396

  • Dog licenses are now due.  To avoid a late fee, license your dog by January 31. You’ll need to show proof of neuter or spay if it’s the first time, and a current rabies vaccination.

First Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration

Come to the Unity Barn Raisers Community Center in the heart of Unity! Parents, bring your kids! Kids, bring your parents! Bring friends and relations! Bring out of town guests! What the heck! Bring everyone! Potluck dinner starts at 6:30pm, potluck dessert starts at 8pm, and at 10pm, we will celebrate the New Year, (because it’s already the New Year somewhere), by singing Auld Lang Syne (sheet words provided). Bring with you a potluck side dish or dessert, (special volunteers will provide the entree); bring favorite tabletop games, musical instruments, whatever else you can think of! Expect bursts of spontaneous participatory entertainment from your fellow guests, (or from you)!  There might even be a sing-along or two! Local! Chem-free! Down home entertainment!
