Mid-Maine Food Pantry Coalition Fundraiser Flea Market/Yard Sale

Sunday, Sept. 23, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

To raise funds for the food pantries to purchase turkeys and food for Thanksgiving and beyond. Location: Unity Raceway. Rental Tables/Area: Donation of $10 per table. Items not permitted to be sold: Guns, Fireworks, TVs or monitors. (All vendors must have any special permits or licenses for the items they sell. They are required to report any required sales information directly. Any items in question will be allowed at the discretion of the organizers.) StoryWalk with Author Lynn Plourde

Saturday Sept. 29, 10 a.m.

StoryWalk features popular children’s books mounted on sign posts along local public access trails. The kickoff event will feature "Pigs in the Mud in the Middle of the Rud," by Maine author Lynn Plourde, who will be at the event. Seventeen elegant wooden sign posts were locally crafted by Jim MacDonald. Each page from the book is laminated, mounted and installed along the Community Bikeway Trail. This event is a collaboration among Unity Barn Raisers, Unity College and RSU 3. Unity Barn Raisers oversees the CommUnity Trails system. Unity College provides community service support for the local StoryWalk and its expansion. Funding for the signs was made possible through the RSU 3 Early Literacy Program. Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes and bring a water bottle. At the Unity Community Center, 32 School St. in downtown Unity.

6th Annual Arts for Hunger

Monday, Oct. 1

Arts for Hunger brings together the generosity of talented people in Waldo County to help those less fortunate in our communities. Local artists, crafters and citizens are invited to donate items for a silent auction and sale held throughout the month of October at the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts. www.unityme.org/ArtsForHunger2012.pdf. Probate Basics - Family Law

Monday, Oct. 1, 6-8 p.m.

Susan Longley will be at Crosstrax Deli for this free presentation. Although she can’t provide legal advice, she will be talking about various probate matters such as power of attorney, guardianships and conservatorships and to help more people understand the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Refreshments will be served, including homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Seasonal Cooking with Apples

Thursday, Oct. 4, 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the Volunteer Regional Food Pantry. Free to attend; suitable for all levels. All classes are taught by UMaine Extension professionals. Classes will be held at the Unity Community Center Kitchen at 32 School St. Pre-registration required; call 948-9295. Stay tuned: Cooking Matters six-week course for families will start in October.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event

Saturday Oct. 6

At the Pittsfield Transfer Station. Pesticides (including farm pesticides), chemicals, pharmaceuticals may be brought in. E-waste (TVs, computers, etc) will also be accepted. There is no cost for this event, but you are asked to register by Sept. 28 at your town office.

UBR Day of Service

Saturday, Oct. 13, 1-4 p.m. (rain or shine)

Third annual fundraiser that rallies sponsors and volunteers to help make positive changes in our community. Volunteers will meet at the Unity Community Center at 12:30 p.m. to register and work on projects like community trails, Triplet Park, Veggies for ALL and more! Call 948-9005 by Oct. 5 to pre-register. Then stick around for dinner. A community meal will be held at 4:30 p.m. Free to volunteers. All welcome!

Free Fall Harvest Festival

Sunday, Sept.v30, noon-3 p.m., at New Life Community Church on Route 173 in South Montville. There will be fun for the whole family with a chicken barbecue, bounce house, games, cotton candy, fresh pressed apple cider, crafts, music and so much more! All ages are welcome.
