Updated: Snow, sleet totals from latest storm upped
Rockport — As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect for the Midcoast through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Monday afternoon, VStv Chief Meteorologist Tyler Southard forecasted a winter storm Tuesday to bring accumulating snow to the Midcoast. Light snow will developed overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning and is expected to pick up in intensity and coverage through the late morning, afternoon and evening. Southard's forecast calls for snow to continue into the overnight hours with a change to sleet leading up to midnight and eventually to all rain into early Wednesday morning as warm air pushes in from the south. Rain will come to an end Wednesday morning with sunshine returning into the afternoon. Three to six inches of snow and sleet is expected for much of the Midcoast, with higher amounts inland and for the mountains of western Maine.
Colder air will move back in Wednesday night, Southard said, with a fast-moving system passing to the south on Thursday with a trace to 2 inches of snow possible, then fair and cold weather is likely Friday. Unsettled conditions are likely for the weekend with a couple of fast-moving weak disturbances providing the chance for some additional wintry precipitation, but amounts are not likely to be heavy.
