Belfast — Belfast police are asking for the public's help with an investigation regarding a number of vehicles, residences and businesses that had their windows shot out with a BB gun.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said officers have received reports of at least 10 vehicles having a window shot out between Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Cunningham said in addition to the vehicles, a number of homes and the Weathervane Restaurant and the Harbormaster's office also were damaged.

The vehicles that were damaged were parked on High Street, Front Street, at Waterfall Arts and in the Washington Street municipal lot, Cunningham said.

Cunningham said Officer Eric Kelley has been investigating the reports of vandalism and police believe because of the angle of the shots, the vandal was firing down at the vehicles, possibly from a truck.

Police do not have any estimates for how much damage was done to the vehicles and buildings, Cunningham said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call police dispatch at 338-2040.
