Victims punched, stabbed in unrelated assaults
Police on March 5 charged two individuals involved in separate alleged assaults.
A Belfast resident called 911 when 37-year-old Scott Moores of Swanville arrived at a residence covered in blood. Moores told the resident he was involved in a domestic disturbance in Swanville, according to a news release from Waldo County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies and Belfast police officers responded to the call and interviewed Moores and the caller. After investigating, police determined Moores was at a home in Swanville where he had allegedly punched the victim who had a protection order prohibiting Moores from having contact with her, police said. When a witness to the assault attempted to call police, Moores prevented the witness from making the call.
Moores was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, Class C, obstructing the report of a crime, Class D, and violation of a protection order, Class D.
He is being held without bail pending his arraignment.
That same day, police also responded to a 911 call regarding an unrelated domestic disturbance at a home on Swan Lake Avenue in Swanville. The caller reported that someone in the home was stabbed during an altercation.
Because the caller initially reported the home as being in Belfast, officers from Belfast Police Department responded and arrived at the home first, and attempted to arrest Michelle Sheaffer, 26, of Swanville.
However, Sheaffer resisted and at one point during the struggle, she allegedly bit Sgt. Dan Fitzpatrick's hand.
Officers eventually placed her under arrest and removed her from the home.
An investigation determined Sheaffer engaged in an argument with a family member and her boyfriend, during which she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the buttocks with a small kitchen knife, police said.
She was charged with aggravated assault, Class B, assault, Class D, and resisting arrest, Class D.
The boyfriend was taken to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment and later released.
Sheaffer is being held without bail until she is arraigned.
