Vikings shoot to 4-0 record with win over GSA

Grant tallies 16 points, Ogden 15 in another SDHS victory

Searsport — The Searsport District High School girls basketball team is off to its hottest start in recent memory as the Vikings, following the team's 57-39 home win over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill on Thursday night, Dec. 19, are a perfect 4-0 on the young season.

The Vikings pounced on the Eagles early and took a 21-6 lead after the first quarter, though GSA rallied back and the visitors trailed only 26-21 at halftime. Searsport then took a 42-32 advantage after three quarters.

Briana Grant tossed in 16 points to lead the winners, while Melinda Ogden added 15; Kelli Gibbs, seven; Kaitlyn Shute, six; Brittany Ward and Anna Bucklin, both four; Libby Lane, three; and Alicen Brooks, two.

For GSA, Megan Nowland paced the offense with 17 points, while Jennifer McKenny and Latrina Limburger each added six; Emily Coleman, four; and Hanna Gutow and Harlie Burke, both two.

The Eagles were 2-of-5 (40 percent) from the foul line, while the Vikings were 12-of-22 (54 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, Searsport (4-0, 6.8056 points) is second, while Forest Hills of Jackman (7-0, 8.2060 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.
