Vikings split with Patriots to end regular seasonSearsport girls playoff-bound, Viking boys fall short
Searsport — The Searsport boys and girls basketball teams played their final games of the regular season on Monday, Feb. 3 as the Vikings hosted Bangor Christian in a doubleheader.
The playoff-bound Viking girls bested the Patriots 77-52, while the Viking boys, on the outside of the playoffs looking in, fell 61-39 to the Patriots.
The following is a recap of both contests:
Searsport 77, Bangor Christian 52
At Searsport Feb. 3, the Vikings pulled away from the Patriots in the second quarter and surged to victory. Searsport led 15-14, 40-23 and 60-37 at the quarter breaks.
Briana Grant dumped in 32 points to lead the hosts, while Alicen Brooks added 16; Melinda Ogden, 11; Brittany Ward, six; Anna Bucklin, four; Allison Walker and Libby Lane, two; and Karigen Coffin, one.
Maggie McDonald netted 19 points to lead the Patriots, while Caitlin Walling added 10; Sydney Martin, seven; Sierra McDonald and Kate Jones, six; and Kelsea McDonald, three.
The Vikings were 19-of-29 (65 percent) from the foul line, while the Patriots were 11-of-19 (58 percent).
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, Searsport (14-4, 70.2932 points) is third, while Forest Hills of Jackman (17-0, 75.5283 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.
Bangor Christian 61, Searsport 39
At Searsport Feb. 3, the Patriots surged to a sizeable lead in the second quarter and never looked back, and bested the Vikings in the regular-season finale for both squads. Bangor Christian led 14-8, 33-15 and 50-21 at the quarter breaks.
Jake Powell scored 11 points for Searsport, while Bryce Shorey added nine; Troy Reynolds, eight; Isaiah Mentas, four; Barrett Grant, three; and Brayden Perkins and Cody Parks, two.
Seth Rearson scored 25 points for Bangor Christian, while Jon Cormier added 13; Bryan Boutot, eight; Ben Miller, six; Caleb Peavy, four; Josh Palmeter, three; and Cody Collins, two.
The Vikings were 5-of-8 (62 percent) from the foul line, while the Patriots were 4-of-13 (31 percent).
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, Searsport (3-15, 6.3194 points) is 13th, while Hyde School of Bath (15-1, 74.4998 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.
