The Waldo County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded $33,578 in grants to 16 nonprofits, including Jackson Food Pantry, to purchase a generator to create an emergency warming center at the Jackson Community Center building and prevent food loss during power outages.

Other grant recipients include:

  • Belfast Free Library, to equip the young adult room with technology to attract and engage teen patrons
  • Penobscot Marine Museum, to support “The Gee's Bend Quilts in Maine” exhibition and associated programs
  • RSU 3, to support the expansion of the school greenhouse and garden project into a community garden project.

The Waldo County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects that strengthen communities in Waldo County. Applications to the fund are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is Feb. 15, 2015. The application and guidelines can be found at www.mainecf.org.
