SOUTH THOMASTON — The first day in this New Year of 2013 seems a most appropriate time to publish this particular "blog" for "Finns and Friends".

Marja-Leena Bailey, the department chair of World Languages at Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts, has announced that she will be teaching a new Finnish Language class this April. She will be ably assisted in instructing this class by her friend and teaching colleague, Aire-Maija Schwann. And...the classroom location is right here in mid-coastal Maine!!!

Classes will be held in Jura Hall, beneath the Finnish Congregational Church in South Thomaston, starting on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 4PM. These two-hour classes will run for six consecutive Saturdays until May 11, 2013. Cost will be $115 per person, with a discount for a second family member. A new textbook and CD will also be available. If you are interested and wish specific details, please contact Steve Gifford (our club trustee) by phone (207-989-1971), mail (Park Avenue West, Brewer, ME 04412), or email at (naskali2@hotmail.com).

This is truly wonderful news. We have tried to hold annual classes about the language of our ancestors, ever since our various clubs first formed here in the late 1990's. This will be our very first opportunity to learn from such gifted professionals.

P. S. If the title ("Want to learn Finnish?") seems vaguely familiar, it's because I first published it on May 24, 2012. Plans for classroom facilities at URock didn't work out.
