White on E.B. and dogs
Islesboro — Martha White, granddaughter of legendary Maine author E.B. White, will read and sign her newest book, “E.B. White on Dogs,” Thursday, July 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Artisan Books & Bindery, 111 Derby Road.
Published by Tilbury House, Publishers, “E.B. White on Dogs” is a collection of E.B. White's essays, poems and letters on his life with Man's Best Friend. “E.B. White on Dogs” includes writings from 1929 to 1984, old favorites as well as lesser-known pieces in which White describes dog shows, sled dog races and the trials and tribulations of city canines. The collection offers White's running commentary on Maine farm life in letters and essays including "Death of a Pig," "Hunting Dogs" and "Fred on Space," a posthumous interview with the ghost of his beloved and cranky dachshund.
Martha White also includes previously unpublished photographs of White family dogs of every type and disposition. An accomplished author in her own right, Martha White was a contributing writer and editor to Yankee Magazine's Old Farmer's Almanac; and her essays have appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Down East and many other publications.
